Our goal is to provide the support and resources necessary to allow all students to learn, grow, and achieve to the best of their ability.  A wide variety of services are available in the Wisconsin Heights School District to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of students.  Our pupil services and special education staff members are committed to collaborating with teachers, families, and community members in order to design successful interventions for struggling students.

District initiatives include Response to Intervention (RtI) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).  Both are multi-tiered approaches to addressing the academic (RtI) or behavioral (PBIS) needs of students.  Struggling students are increasingly provided with more intensive interventions if less intensive ones prove to be insufficient.  Regular education teachers, interventionists, and special education teachers provide a wide array of services to meet student needs in the areas of reading, math, and language arts.

Teams of educators from our Elementary School have been trained in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).  This is a positive, proactive approach to dealing with student behavior.  As part of this approach, students are taught a clear set of behavioral expectations just like an academic subject.  The expectations are modeled for the students and practiced at the beginning of each school year.  Throughout the year, students receive feedback and positive reinforcement for displaying the expected behaviors.  Data is collected and analyzed to guide decisions about which behaviors need to be re-taught and to identify students who might need more intensive instruction.
