Students recently visited the Local 139 Operating Engineers Externship Day at the training facility in Coloma, WI. This was a fully interactive and hands-on field trip with students operating heavy machinery as well as having the opportunity to speak with industry leaders and instructors. #VanguardPride

One of our favorite #VanguardPride elementary partnerships is the when 4K and 5th graders get together for fun buddy activities. This week buddies learned how to make a gingerbread person! They turned out great!

After a year of planning and finalizing details, the solar project begins this week! On December 12, 2022, the Wisconsin Heights School Board approved a solar project at the District Campus. The District has partnered with Full Spectrum Solar, a Wisconsin based company, and one of the most highly-credentialed solar energy contracts in the Midwest. Full Spectrum Solar has completed solar projects for a wide variety of both residential and business locations, as well as Forest Edge Elementary School and Brooklyn Elementary School (Oregon School District). There are multiple benefits to the District for moving to solar. We will decrease our use on non-renewable resources, reduce electric bills, have energy independence, realize long-term savings, earn tax credits, and glean savings since solar has lower maintenance. #VanguardPride #SolarPower #GreenIsOurColor

Heights Wresting has started! Last Friday they were in Reedsburg with the next dual this Friday in Mt. Horeb. JV starts at 5:30 and Varsity at 7:00! #VanguardPride

World of Culinary traveled to Spain via taste buds with Ms. Deese and Ms. Schmitt. Students cooked up Patatas Bravas, a fried potato with a Bravas sauce featuring smoked paprika. Looks great #VanguardPride students!

Come one, come all to the Elementary Science Night on Friday, December 8th from 4:30-6:30pm in the Elementary Gym. #VanguardPride

Yesterday we posted about the 7th grade math class putting together a holiday puzzle - well, they did it! They discovered the puzzle formed a picture of the Grinch! #VanguardPride fun!

7th grade math ended their unit on solving equations with a collaborative holiday project. They were each given 16 equations to solve and a unique puzzle piece. Their answers to their equations told them how to color their puzzle pieces. If they solve their equations correctly, when all of their puzzle pieces come together, it will create a holiday picture. Right now, most of them think the picture is turning out to be Santa Claus, but they will be surprised once they put the #VanguardPride puzzle together!

In freshman biology, students cut out different pieces that make up DNA and taped them together to form a giant strand!! #VanguardPride

Personal finance students are learning about what credit scores mean and how to earn a good credit score. At the end of the unit, they played a game similar to the Game of Life where their actions impacted their credit score as they worked their way to the finish line. The student with the highest credit score at the end of the game was the winner. Most students earned excellent credit scores by making bill payments on time and paying off credit cards. A few hit rock bottom by maxing out their credit cards, missing payments, and applying for a lot of different credit cards. It was an interactive and interesting way for students to learn about how their decisions impact their credit score! #VanguardPride life lessons!

Volleyball handed out some special team and all conference awards at their end of season banquet. 4th graders in Mrs. Stadler's #VanguardPride class disguised turkeys and then wrote step-by-step instructions on how to draw them. They switched their instructions with a classmate and had their classmate draw using only their instructions! It was tricky but they did great! 🦃🦃

#VanguardPride HS Student Council is excited to share a brief recap of their recent adventure at the WASC (Wisconsin Association of School Councils) Leadership Fall Conference on November 17th. A group of nine dedicated students, accompanied by Mr. Braunschweig, embarked on a journey to broaden their understanding of student council dynamics and student leadership. The conference offered a unique platform for our representatives to engage with fellow student councils, fostering connections and exchanging ideas that will undoubtedly enrich our own initiatives. A highlight of the event was a captivating keynote speech by Jason Michaels on overcoming diversity, inspiring our students to embrace inclusivity and collaboration. Post-conference, the group had the honor of meeting with David Considine from the Wisconsin State Assembly. This insightful session was followed by an enlightening tour of the Wisconsin State Capitol. Our students were not only captivated by the grandeur of the building but also gained valuable insights into the workings of our state government. The experience was truly enriching, and our students expressed genuine enjoyment in learning about Wisconsin's governance firsthand. The HS Student Council looks forward to leveraging this knowledge as they continue to serve our school community.
