Mrs. Meinholz's 6th and 7th grade students reviewed integer rules this week with a Halloween activity.
They were given shapes with integer problems and answers on them, and if they matched the problems to their corresponding right answers, the shape of a ghost would form.
Our #VanguardPride teachers keep learning fun!

A wild Ukulele-Rex was spotted in music class on Halloween! Tiny arms won't keep this dino down!
We love our EA's and are so thankful for all they do to support our #VanguardPride students and make class enjoyable! Julie Presny made this moment of joy possible. Thank you!

Our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) program is underway at #VanguardPride Elementary! Students can earn “Gotcha” tickets when they are being respectful, responsible, or safe in areas around the school.
The entire school is working towards celebration days once certain milestones are met:
* 5000 Gotcha Tickets - hat day
* 10000 Gotcha Tickets - PJ day
* 15000 Gotcha Tickets - sports day dress-up
* 20000 Gotcha Tickets - extra recess
* 25000 Gotcha Tickets - pie Mr. Moore in the face
We have a bulletin board display to track our progress and after we reach a milestone a piece of our pie will be removed until there is nothing left but the pie tin!

6th and 7th grade students did a question trail in math to review expanding expressions. Questions were posted around the room, and as students answered them, their choice led them to a new question. Students got immediate feedback if they were expanding expressions correctly because if they were led back to a question they had already seen, they knew they were off the trail and had to retrace their steps to find their mistake. If students made a full circuit and saw every question once, they knew they were expanding expressions correctly.
It was a great way to review for their upcoming quiz!

Students were able to get first hand knowledge of how to design a garden from Nick Kramer of Kramer Family Tree Care.
Students in Computer-Aided Drafting, who are designing the High School Courtyard Renovation, learned about elements of design, sight lines, as well as the unique diversity of plants, grasses, and rocks in our area. Also on hand for his visit were the Officers of #VanguardPride Wisconsin Height's Green Team.

This next week, October 24 - 28, is national Red Ribbon Week. The 2022 theme is Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free.
Wisconsin Heights Elementary School is focused on celebrating all aspects of our lives! We are celebrating our community, our teams, our futures, our dreams, and our healthy choices. Students may be participating in classroom discussions around making healthy choices and decisions, learning how to withstand peer pressure, and how to make goals for a healthy future.

Fire Prevention Week brought a fire truck from Mazomanie and the Green Machine from Black Earth to our elementary school.
The #VanguardPride students loved seeing the trucks and asking important questions of the fire personnel.
Thank you Mazomanie and Black Earth Fire Departments for sharing the trucks and answering all the fire related questions!
Key messages behind this year’s “Fire Won’t Wait. Plan Your Escape” theme:
-Make sure your home escape plan meets the needs of all your family members, including those with sensory or physical disabilities.
-Smoke alarms should be installed inside every sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of your home. Smoke alarms should be interconnected so when one sounds, they all sound.
-Know at least two ways out of every room, if possible. Make sure all doors and windows open easily.
-Have an outside meeting place a safe distance from your home where everyone should meet.
-Practice your home fire drill at least twice a year with everyone in the household, including guests. Practice at least once during the day and at night.

Thank you to Wisconsin Heights #VanguardPride community members for purchasing a mattress on October 2nd at the high school! 💚
