A few 7th grade students did a special end of year math project to leave their mark on the 7th grade classroom.
These four students painted tessellations on ceiling tiles to hang in the classroom. They painted Sponge Bob, Dory, fall leaves, and a cyclops. This project took several weeks and took a lot of team effort to finish in time before the last day of school. Special thanks to Ms. Goebel for letting the students use the art room every day and to the maintenance crew for hanging them! Mrs. Meinholz is so grateful and proud to hang these in her math classroom forever!

7th grade math ended the year with a team challenge called Mint Mobile. Using 4 mint lifesavers, 1 straw, 10 index cards, scissors, and a foot of tape, they had to design and build a car that could travel the furthest on one push!
Teams had 20 minutes to build and then we tested the cars!
A Ford F-250 and a car called Wisconsin Cheese went the furthest!

The annual #VanguardPride 4K Car Show took place on Wednesday, June 5th at Wisconsin Heights Elementary!💚💚💚
Spectators 👀 watched from the track as the 4K classes "drove" their one-of-a-kind cars for all to see!
Great job everyone!

Last Friday, the #VanguardPride 2nd graders had their annual egg drop project to see who could keep their egg from breaking when dropped off the roof. Mr. Green had the honor of going up to the roof to drop them! The kids have so much fun with this project and they are always very creative 😁

There were some very annoying flies buzzing all over the Smartboard in Mrs. Meinholz’s 7th grade math, so the students played a round of fly-swatter bingo!
They took turns swatting the flies, and each time they got a fly, an equation would pop up for them to solve. After solving the equation, they checked their bingo cards to see if the answer was on their bingo card!
The room was buzzing with activity!

5th grade celebrated collecting 3,000 Gotcha Tickets and the end of the year with a water balloon fight.
Thank you to #VanguardPride parents for bringing in donations of water balloons! We sure had a blast!

At the beginning of the year, Mrs. Stadler's class read the book The World's Best Class Plant. They started with one spider plant and throughout the year, the plant produced over 20 spiderettes (or cute little babies as the class called them.)
Each student was able to take home a new plant! 🌱🪴♥️
We have some #VanguardPride green thumbs!

#VanguardPride Shark Tank!
7th Grade Vanguard Entrepreneurs from Mrs. Schmitt's class presented their business pitches to 'Celebrity Sharks' including School Board President Barb Statz, Superintendent Gerlach, NFL Frequency Coordinator Mr. Hubbard, and Lake Ridge Banker Ms. Francis.
Student teams were required to design a prototype, website, logo, slogan, commercial, and business plan for marketing a new consumer product. They prepared fictional backstories to decide how long they have been selling, what marketing campaigns they plan to do, and determined profits. Sharks asked questions of the teams, so they could practice responding to an audience as part of the public speaking and presenting standards.
The ideas were pretty cool!

They are off to Spain!
Good luck and have fun travelers! We'll see you back here on June 14th!

Friday, May 24, was an early release day for the students and district staff spent the afternoon focusing on their wellness. Staff could choose from multiple activities such as spending time with therapy dogs, doing puzzles, reading, getting a 10-minute massage, gratitude journaling, working out, and going for a walk.
Some members of the special education team did flower arranging as part of the wellness afternoon and another group of staff members put an entire puzzle together in a few hours!
The staff works hard through the year and it's great to have them focus a few hours on their wellness! It was a pleasant and rewarding afternoon!
