Personal finance students are learning about what credit scores mean and how to earn a good credit score. At the end of the unit, they played a game similar to the Game of Life where their actions impacted their credit score as they worked their way to the finish line. The student with the highest credit score at the end of the game was the winner. Most students earned excellent credit scores by making bill payments on time and paying off credit cards. A few hit rock bottom by maxing out their credit cards, missing payments, and applying for a lot of different credit cards. It was an interactive and interesting way for students to learn about how their decisions impact their credit score! #VanguardPride life lessons!

4th graders in Mrs. Stadler's #VanguardPride class disguised turkeys and then wrote step-by-step instructions on how to draw them. They switched their instructions with a classmate and had their classmate draw using only their instructions! It was tricky but they did great! 🦃🦃

#VanguardPride HS Student Council is excited to share a brief recap of their recent adventure at the WASC (Wisconsin Association of School Councils) Leadership Fall Conference on November 17th. A group of nine dedicated students, accompanied by Mr. Braunschweig, embarked on a journey to broaden their understanding of student council dynamics and student leadership. The conference offered a unique platform for our representatives to engage with fellow student councils, fostering connections and exchanging ideas that will undoubtedly enrich our own initiatives. A highlight of the event was a captivating keynote speech by Jason Michaels on overcoming diversity, inspiring our students to embrace inclusivity and collaboration. Post-conference, the group had the honor of meeting with David Considine from the Wisconsin State Assembly. This insightful session was followed by an enlightening tour of the Wisconsin State Capitol. Our students were not only captivated by the grandeur of the building but also gained valuable insights into the workings of our state government. The experience was truly enriching, and our students expressed genuine enjoyment in learning about Wisconsin's governance firsthand. The HS Student Council looks forward to leveraging this knowledge as they continue to serve our school community.

Another fun activity in 7th grade math! 7th grade math broke out of their unit on simplifying expressions and solving equations! As they simplified expressions and solved equations, their answers became the combinations to get into the breakout boxes. If they were correct, they cracked the code, but if they were wrong, they remained locked out. The students really look forward to breakout box days in math because the boxes are similar to puzzles or mysteries, and they have to work collaboratively and think "outside of the box" to actually get into the box! More #VanguardPride fun!

7th grade math solved a Thanksgiving Math Mystery! They went to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, and got to check out all of the floats, but they left their backpacks on one of the floats, and they had to figure out which float it was. To figure it out, they had to find clue cards around the room that had equations on them. As they solved each equation, their answers gave them clues about the float. In the end, they all came together as a class and pooled their information to determine if they left their backpacks on the Tom Turkey float! #VanguardPride fun!!!

World of Culinary, taught by Ms. Deese and Ms. Schmitt, has been studying the art of French cooking. We explored the differences between traditional United States dining and French dining, learned key terminology, and used a reading strategy to break down the recipe for Croque Monsieurs. Personal Finance did a Game of Life Project to finish their unit on creating budgets. Students randomly chose a career, house, vehicle, and habit card. A habit card might be a daily coffee drinker, video gamer, or a road tripper. Using the information on the cards, they had to determine if they were living within their means in paying for food, housing, transportation, and entertainment. If they weren't, they had to determine how they could adjust their lifestyle. Great learning lesson! #VanguardPride

7th grade math celebrated Halloween by using their new skill to solve two-step equations to escape a haunted house. In each room of the digital haunted house, the class was confronted with an equation to solve and 3 doors with solutions on them to solve for. Students used their whiteboard tables to solve the equations, and then one student was randomly selected in each room to pick a door. If the student chose the door with the correct solution, the class made it to a new room, but if they chose a door with an incorrect solution, a spider jumped out at them, and they had to resolve the problem. Awesome and fun ways to learn! #VanguardPride
